Shop storage is high-value because you build it once and use it every day. The best first projects are a wall-mounted tool cabinet, a lumber rack, and a clamp rack - all simple sheet-goods builds that pay back immediately.
In short: start with a wall tool cabinet (keeps hand tools visible and off the bench), a lumber rack (gets wood off the floor), and a clamp rack. Add a router table and a mobile tool chest as your tool collection grows. All are straight cuts in plywood plus hardware.
Wall tool cabinet
